Spay/Panama-Pedasi is a chapter of internationally recognized SpayPanama. Joining forces we have encouraged our goals to improve animal welfare through an intensive spay/neuter program. SpayPanama is responsible for over 20,000 sterilizations every year.
What it means for Pedasi and our surrounding communities:
• To be able to have larger spay/neuter clinics in the future.
• Sterilize more animals throughout the district of Pedasi.
• Offer sterilization clinics in our neighboring towns.
• Your donation is tax-deductible.
Educating young people in Pedasi is key to preserving our efforts for future generations. We organize events and visit schools teaching responsible pet care.
Spay/Panama-Pedasi is supported 100% by charitable donations. Expenses for a clinic can run up to $1000 or more. The actual cost of spaying or neutering an animal is $15-$50. No one is turned away for inability to pay.
Our fundraising efforts include an annual gala dinner, annual patio sale, Pedasí logo design merchandise and, of course, tax deductible cash donations.
In 2006, Animal Advocates of Pedasí (AAP), Margaret von Saenger, moved to the area and quickly realized that there was overpopulation and much suffering from cats and dogs around the Pedasi area. Because of her love for animals and loving manners, she knew she had to do something. In 2007, with the help of family, friends and expenses taken from her own pocket, she organized the first sterilization clinic in Pedasí. Margaret had a long road ahead of her in community education and the benefits of spaying cats and dogs. Many people did not know that their pets could be sterilized so there were many prejudices and fears about doing so. Through Margaret's education and hard work at the first clinic, about 20 animals were sterilized and the community began to see and understand the benefits of the procedure. In the following years, more expatriates moved into the Pedasi area and shared Margaret's passion for cats and dogs. AAP grew and became a successful organization that could raise funds to help locals who could not afford the low-cost sterilization procedure. Over the years, AAP has maintained larger sterilization clinics with the help of Spay Panama and Fundación San Francisco de Asis, and small clinics with the help of local veterinarians. But we still wanted to do more. Fast forward to 2017.
At the beginning of 2017 the Animal Advocates of Pedasí became a chapter of Spay Panama in an effort to better stop the overpopulation of unwanted dogs and cats throughout the Pedasi district. Under the umbrella of Spay Panama, AAP has the ability to use the skills of Spay Panama veterinarians to maintain large low-cost sterilization clinics and serve more people, their pets and more feral animals. This partnership also allows AAP to receive tax-deductible donations that will, in turn, allow United States and Panama citizens to contribute more easily to our cause.
We are now Spay/Panama-Pedasi. Our volunteers need your help. Please join us in helping our Panamanian communities in the Pedasi district learn more about the benefits of sterilizing local cats and dogs and how to properly care for their dear furry friends. Your tax-deductible donation can help many animals live a healthier and happier life. Thank you for your care and interest in our cause. Loving people like you can make a difference in the lives of our animals.
